Adventure of the Summer

We stared out the window into the bright morning sky lost in thought.  There was nothing to do on the steaming summer day.  I looked over to Kailey, my strawberry blonde, spunky friend, and she just shrugged her shoulders.  I let out a big sigh and fell back down on the couch.  Reruns had been going on all day and that was all we had to watch.  My parents were at work and our active, crazy brothers were no where to be found.  Which means we were home alone and stuck there.  What a dull summer day.
Kailey came and sat down by me and we decided there really was nothing to do today.  It was nearing the end of summer so her and I have done everything possible that a kid could think of, or so we thought.
I jumped up from the couch and said, “Guess what! We can build a bigger and better fort than our brothers had done for us!”  She thought it was a great idea.  We walked around outside looking for every possible place that we could start a fort.
There seemed to be no place that would work for us when Kailey finally said, “Hey, how about we just do it in that huge tree right next to your house?!”  I thought that was a splendid idea, because then we would be close to the house for all the supplies we would be needing.
As we went out to an old barn to get some boards for climbing purposes we came upon what seemed to be just a massive pile of junk.  Well, as young kids we became very curious and decided to go and search to see what kind of interesting objects we could find.  As we began to dig deeper and deeper into this pile we started to discover old plates, cups, tea pots, and other old things.  We thought these things were kind of cute and interesting so Kailey found an old bucket and we started to fill it.
We gathered up our bucket of treasures and headed back to our soon to be fort.   By this time we had pretty much filled up our morning and decided to head in for our lunch.  Kailey decided we were going to eat mac ‘n cheese, hot dogs, and pickles, which happens to be her favorite meal.  Since we were not cooks it was also the perfect meal to make.
As Kailey looked onto my backyard she suddenly exclaimed, “The four wheeler!”
“Huh?” I replied concentrating on the mac ‘n cheese.
“We can use the four wheeler to get more things since this happens to be taking forever to haul them over here!”
“Kailey! That is a wonderful idea! Let’s quickly eat so we can get to work!” I proclaimed.
After lunch we set out towards the four wheeler.  I easily started it up and we headed back to the pile of junk to find more items.  As we got off the four wheeler and began to approach the pile we noticed that our legs were extremely itching.  We had just walked through a batch of poison ivy!  Then, we got covered in cockle burs, what luck!  They were all over our hair, which happens to be the worst place to get them.  We were getting discouraged and mad and just wanted to head back in.  We were about to leave when we realized, who cares!  Kailey and I wanted an amazing fort so we would do anything thing to get it!  We pressed on!
Kailey announced that we should quickly trek over to our brothers fort to spy and see all the things they have done so we could out do them.  As we rode over there to check it out we knew we have a lot of work to do to be better.  We surveyed the site and had seen many cool things like a TV, a couch, chairs, and a ton of other things.  This was going to be hard.
Now we went in and grabbed a few interesting things.  We loaded them onto the four wheeler and headed back.  It was hard to get all our stuff up into the tree.  Though we happen to be very smart and creative girls and hooked up a little bucket and rope so that we could pull all the stuff up way high in the tree!
In order to get that high up in the tree we built steps for ourselves.  We couldn’t put the steps all the way up the tree, because that is what branches are for.  Since branches get smaller near the top of the tree we couldn’t climb on them as well or they could break.  I thought of things we could do to fix that and we decided to tie the rope way up so we could climb up on that.
It was beginning to be late afternoon.  Kailey decided it was time for a snack, so we went indoors and grabbed an ice cream treat.  We thought about it and thought why not eat it in our tree so we can watch the cars go by.  We got up to a decently high branch, but we couldn't go all the way to the top or the branch would be to small to support us both.
As we sat there in the warm summer day we thought life couldn’t get better than this.  We just finished our treat and wanted to relax a little.  All of the sudden we heard a tiny crack.  I glanced over at Kailey, her eyes wide opened and then she started falling down.  I had one of my hands on the branch above and I was hanging there by one hand.  I did not realize what had really just happen, but then my hand slipped and I too went down.  As I lay there in pain I looked over at Kailey.  She had a lot of scratches and I only had a couple.  We got off easy on that one.  We started to laugh and noticed that actually that was kind of exciting.  A day well spent indeed.
Life is an adventure.  Go out and find your life adventure.  You will discover many fantastic surprises.  Be courageous and have fun.  Use your creativity and imagination to make your day a great one.  Be safe though!  You should probably make sure a parent is around if you are planning to go in a tree and happen to fall.  Have fun!

Spiderman vs. Superman

Do you have a favorite super hero?  I do, it’s Spiderman.  I will be comparing Spiderman with Superman today.  Don’t read this if you can’t handle the blunt truth about Superman.
Now here is a little background on Spiderman, also known as Peter Parker.  Peter had just been a very ordinary plain guy.  One day Peter was at place full of spiders.  One of the spiders had gotten loose and it bite him.  He didn’t think much of it until slowly he found out what was happening to him, Peter began to get spider powers!  He had actually been bitten by a radioactive spider!  He could shoot web out and swing from place to place with it, he can also climb walls.  Peter wanted to use his powers to help the city so he made himself a suit and is known as Spiderman.
Superman was born on the planet Krypton.  His parents also had super powers, and he was just born with them.  They named him Kal-El, but when he came to earth and was adopted his name changed to Clark Kent.  Some of his powers include super strength, flying and X-ray vision.  He also uses his powers for good.
At the same time some similarities of the two amazing superhero’s would be that they are both trying to help to keep people safe.  The people rely on them to be there and save the day.  Both of them are very famous and also great role models.  Every kid wants to be like their favorite super hero.  They buy their costumes for Halloween, carry around their superhero backs, and wear t-shirts with Superman or Spiderman on them.  Also Spiderman and Superman have their own movies.  They also have some cartoons for all the children that adore them.
A difference between these two superhero’s would be how they had gotten their powers, which I had explained earlier.  Other things could include their appearance.  Superman is totally buff looking and also has no mask.  He also wears a cape, while Spiderman does not wear a cape.  Wearing a cape is probably a bad thing anyways, because it can get caught on something or catch on fire!  On the other hand Spiderman is not all that strong looking and he wears a mask over his face so nobody really knows who he truly is.  I think, in my opinion, he does that so he doesn’t get all this fame and attention that he doesn’t really need or want.  Superman is all cocky and wants attention.  He is not humble like Spiderman.  He wants people to notice him and think that he is all that, which personally I don’t think he is.  Superman flies around like he is all that which I think I could take him down easily:).
Now after this amazing compare and contrast I want to persuade you to be a Spiderman fan.  He is just an all around great person.  Spiderman is great with kids; they all love him.  Ask any kid that has met him and you will get an amazing story.
Superman is just so over done.  He is really just like a stereotype.  I bet he doesn’t even really care about the kids that look up to him!  Spiderman has to go to all the kids mean old Superman is a jerk to and help them through their Superman depression!
I hope you found this paper helpful.  I am sorry to all the Superman fans out there, but really this is the truth.  Come to team Spiderman and you will live a happier life.  You will know the true meaning of what superhero role model truly is.

Basketball vs. Volleyball

I remember my first ever JV basketball game with my favorite coach.  We went into triple overtime and won!  Basketball and volleyball are both enjoyable sports, but there are a ton of things that make them alike and different.
Basketball and volleyball are two very popular sports.  They can both be played by either gender.  They both involve a round ball that is like a head size or larger.  Both are played in a square/rectangle shaped court.  These also involve being on a team, so you must work together to win.
While they have a couple similarities, there is also very many differences.  When you play volleyball there is a net between you and the other team.  While in basketball you are right up next to the team and colliding with them so it is quite a physical sport.  The only net in basketball happens to be the one you want the basketball to go into, but in volleyball you want to keep the ball from going into the net.
On the basketball court you can make new friends with the other team.  They are usually very friendly.  While during volleyball if you try to talk to the other team, they are very rude and will mouth off to you or just laugh and talk bad about you to their other teammates.  I would have to say that you can ask a bunch of people and a majority will agree that volleyball players tend to be cocky snobs compared to basketball players.
Volleyball is for people that just want to be involved in a sport to look sporty.  You don’t really do much.  There is barely any running, the most you do is jump to hit and block.  Basketball is really intense though.  You are constantly running up and down this court, which happens to be much bigger than a volleyball court so that makes it even harder.  You have to be jumping and pushing to get a rebound .  Basketball involves needing to have toned arms and legs so that you can not get pushed around as much.  Volleyball people could use some more muscle sometimes, but usually girls don’t take it seriously enough and don’t try to get better.
Volleyball may cause bruising on your knees, elbows, and hips from falling to dive.  You don’t get pushed around though, so the bruises aren’t too bad.  Basketball makes you work and push for the ball.  You will get knocked down by huge girls and beat up out there.  You will have bruises everywhere from being pushed around and hit.  During a volleyball game you also barely sweat.  You are never constantly running, so it is not too much work to do out there.  As for a basketball game though, you are just literally dripping sweat.  You will also have to touch the other sweaty girls.  So you have to be tough enough to not care what you look like, this is not for “girlie” girls.
Now we will talk about the differences in uniforms.  For volleyball you have to wear spandex shorts.  It is comfortable slightly, but sometimes it is just not cool having to wear that in front of people.  Now for basketball, on the other hand, you get to wear loose and baggy shorts.  Overall the basketball uniform is more comfortable.
It seems that basketball players become more popular and famous compared to volleyball players.  It is more exciting to watch basketball, because of all its action.  It is just very entertaining, in general.  Volleyball is also nice to watch; it is just that you don’t get as much pushing and injury.
That is just a few things about the comparing and contrasting of these two amazing sports.  Basketball is more of a hard and intense sport compared to volleyball.  Both are still great and fun sports that boys and girls can enjoy.

Go-karting

There are so many things to pick from to do for fun in the summer.  Just to help you out I will tell you the answer, go-kart racing.  I would encourage anyone that likes to have a good time and see some action to come out to the track.
Here are some of the pros to being a racer.  You never have to wonder what to do during the day.  You can prep your tires, wash your kart, and get all your stuff packed up and in the trailer ready for the upcoming race.  When you race more than one track you even have more things to do!  You will have to adjust your gears and tire pressure according to which track you are going to.  Even if you just race one though, there always seems there is plenty of things you will need to fix on your kart.  Trust me, doing these things is actually fun!  All you have to do is listen to music while doing this and you can make it like a little party for yourself!  Another advantage is that you will get a very toned arms and body.  The karts are decently heavy (depending on what class you are in or how much you weigh) and you will have to lift them a lot.  Also removing the engine and trying unbolting stuff can give you an arm work out.  Another bonus is you can get a great tan if you work in the sun!
There are many classes (groups of karts you will race with) to choose from.  You don’t have to worry about racing against too skilled people, because there is a class for beginners, and other categories to pick from too.  So don’t even worry about being nervous, because there are always new people wanting to race, and you will end up racing with them too if you choose to.
At the race track there are many friendly people.  They are also very humorous.  People are always willing to lend you a hand and loan you a tool or gear.  You will also notice that before the race the other people always are giving people thumbs up or coming to you to say good luck.  That is because when you are out on the track you are out there to have fun, but you can still be a little competitive, just don’t go overboard or the other racers might make a plan to take you out.
Your grandparents, family and friends will enjoy watching you race too!  You can bring a grill to the track and have a cook out with your family!  If you have a close family friend race too, then you can invite them and have an awesome barbecue!  The best part overall has to be that you get to go fast out on the track!
I am not going to lie to you and say there is no bad parts in racing, but it’s nothing that you can’t fix!  This sport happens to take a little bit of cash.  I am pretty sure though if you got a little summer job it won’t be that big of a problem.  One other thing is that sometimes the track can be a slight distance away, especially if you get really serious into your racing.  If you want to race against good and competitive people to have a challenge you might have to race a track that maybe is even in another state!  I know this might sound a little bit miserable, especially if you hate car rides.  But if you really love the sport, which I can guarantee you will if you try it, then it is totally worth it!  You can use all this time to get some family bonding!  You could also bring a friend along and we all know that no matter what having a friend with makes everything exciting.
Since you have now read this amazing essay you probably want to know how to get started.  Go and talk to the man named Todd Swartz.  He can hook you up with a sweet ride and everything you will need to get started.
You now know some of the basic things involving go-kart racing.  It is a fun and a good type of time consuming.  You won’t regret joining the rest of us racers, for this fabulous summer activity!

Book Review

So Not Happening is a fiction book written by Jenny B. Jones.  It deals with a girl having to go through many changes, which she really does not like.  It shows how she get through them and deals with all the things going on in her life.
Bella Kirkwood has just had her mom get remarried after only being separated only months before that! To make things worse they met online and haven’t seen each other in person, but at that moment they were about to say their “I do’s” to one another!
Her new stepfather lives in a shabby house in Oklahoma.  He has a very embarrassing job, and has a secret that she is determined to find out.  Where as her real father lives in the big city and is loaded!  He always has a new girl with him, which caused the divorce, but now he thinks he may have found his true love!  She hates this new lady, and she thinks she is keeping secrets.  On top of everything else, she found out that her boyfriend was cheating on her with her best friend!  So much for those guys!
Bella had gotten of to a bad start in Oklahoma.  She has a stuck up newspaper editor that always is getting on her case too.  When she is doing some stuff for him she over hears a conversation with some football guys and she knows now that something fishy is going on with them.  She tries to find out, but her editor keeps telling her to leave it.  She can’t though, because she thinks it may have something to do with some deaths and injuries that have occurred.  Bella is starting to think that  there is nothing that doesn’t seem suspicious in this town!
She also has to try to get along with her two new stepbrothers that came along with her new father.  The older brother is always just trying to make her mad, so she does that back.  It seems like everything is just getting worse and worse as her life goes on!  She has no one to talk because it seems like everyone hates her.  Her mom doesn’t have time for her as she is busy with a new job, college and trying to be a mother.  She doesn’t like her new dad or brothers, so she can’t talk to them.  No one at school wants to talk to her, because they think she is a rude rich girl.
Bella finally makes some new friends.  They are nice people and they help her get through all this madness.  She can also help them with some of their problems too!  When she finally seems to get close to her rude, but cute editor, she seems to mess it up by not listening to him.  She finally realized why he was so stern about her not getting to involved with that mystery.
Everything in the end is good though.  Everything seems to work out and she gets a new, more trustworthy boyfriend.  New more reliable and kind friends.  She also really gets her new family.  Her mother starts to be more loving and supportive.  She actually starts to get along with her new father.  She and her brother eventually worked things out and now they can actually stand each other.  Her new little brother starts to open up to her too, because she saved him from being bullied in school.
Bella has had many secrets to find out.  She had her new step dad, her dad’s girlfriends, the football team, and many more.  She has other stuff to deal with too.  When everything looks like she got it figured out though, she gets herself into a bad spot.
The main character, Bella, seems to be a strong girl.  She has to go through a lot o changes in just a short time.  She is a very spunky girl that doesn’t listen to people when they tell her not to do something that she really wants to find out the secret about.  I admire that she does ask the Lord for help, even though sometimes we are seem to struggle with our faith.  She tries her hardest to get things right, but it never seems to work.  Everything just gets more miserable.  She teaches us how you an get through many situations and how to deal with a lot of things.  In the end she comes out on top though, because she gets closer to all of her family, gets better true friends, and maybe even a new boyfriend, if only she could figure him out.  She gets a closer relationship to God.
I really enjoyed this book! It is an inspiring book in how it teaches you so many lessons and how this girl has dealt with them.  It teaches you how God can help.  Family and true friends are always there for you too, even if you think they keep annoying or ignoring you, it’s just that they have lives to live too!  This book had interesting and very well described settings.  It has many situations that could actually be happening in someone's life for real.  This book is an action packed book that you will never want to put down!  It always has you begging to read more!
It has really great settings in the book.  You can clearly picture it in your mind and she writes with such good details, you feel like you are right there with them!  The whole story has very realistic characters also.  It was good how she had her main character develop and change throughout the story.  It also has a fantastic pace.  You were always interested in it.  Some things are not fully resolved though at the end, but that is because you have to read the other two books to find out!  At the end of the whole series though, everything is resolved.  This book is more for girls though obviously so I wouldn’t recommend this to guys.  I do believe every girl would highly enjoy this book!

A Love Story

My name is Jayden Anthony Clarkson.  I was 12 years old, sharing a milkshake with her, when I realized I was in love.  Her name was Clementine Beth Summers.
Clementine Beth had gorgeous strawberry blonde curls, that I couldn’t help myself but to play with them.  She had the most piercing and intimidating green eyes.  She was like an open book, there was nothing she could hide from me.  Clementine always had a smile on her face, she was filled with joy.  She always knew how to cheer me up.
Our families had been best friends since before either of us were even born.  Our mothers had met at “becoming a mother” classes and right away they clicked.  They would do yoga and walk together while they were pregnant with us.
I was the first to arrive.  I came on July 12, and she came soon after on July 15.  We had had done literally everything together since then.  Our parents always said that when we grew up that we would get married.  We found that a little weird, we were young and just wanted too be friends.  All of the sudden our friendship started to change.
Clementine was my first kiss, and I hers.  She was the first girl I held hands with, and it was as I walked her home from school.  I had been her first Valentine, and it had been a construction paper heart with her name on it in first grade.  She had been the first girl that I ever shared my fruit snacks with.  She had been my first everything, and I had been hers.
Until one day my world turned for the worst.  My dad had been moved to France by his work.  I was totally devastated.  I tried everything I could to stay in Kansas, telling them I could live with my aunt or friend.  They wouldn’t even listen.  I knew they wouldn’t though, because we were a family and I had to go with them.  We moved the day after my 13th birthday.  I cried on the ride to the airport.  I wouldn’t even get to celebrate her birthday with her.  I couldn’t spend day after day with her.  I barely even got to say good bye.
I called her everyday for the first three month I had been in France.  The calls got shorter and came less often.  We just had nothing to talk about over the phone anymore.  I would stay up late many nights as I thought about her and what she was doing.  I would dial her number in the phone everyday, but I was too scared to actually call her.  I wrote her imaginary letters that I kept hidden under my bed.  I stared at the pictures in my room of her and me whenever I got the chance.  I kept a picture of her in my wallet and made sure I had it where ever I went.
My mom couldn’t get a job in France until two years after we had moved.  My dad had gotten angry with how lazy she was being, so she decided it was time to look for a job.  They stopped yelling at each other once she got her job, because they barely saw me or each other.  Their jobs had long hours and I got so lonely.  I missed Clementine more than ever and two years had already past!  I called her every couple of months, but that just wasn’t enough.  I needed her so badly.
A year after that my parents started fighting more and more.  It really made me sad and I had no one to talked to.  I tried to tell Clementine a couple of times, but I was scared of what she would think about how messed up my family was.  Finally one night they were yelling louder than ever and I heard things crash and a door slammed.  I looked out my bedroom window to see my dad speeding away in the car.
I heard soft steps about an hour later coming to my room.  My mom came in looking weak, pale, and thin.  I asked if she was all right and she just said that I should start packing my favorite things because we were moving back to Kansas.  I asked her about dad and she just said that he would not be coming with us.
My mom left and I started to cry, because I knew they were getting divorced.  It crushed me on the inside, but now I was at least going back to Clementine.
As I sat in the airport waiting for the plan that was going to take me back to Kansas I took out my phone.  I quickly dialed in Clementine’s number and she picked up after the first ring.
    “Hello?” she answered.
“Hey Clementine.  I am about to get on a plane to come back to Kansas.  Can you meet me at the airport?” I said cautiously.
“Oh my word!!! I can’t wait to see you!!! I am going to get ready and head there now! I can’t wait!!!” she screamed joyfully.
“Thanks. See you soon.” I replied and hung up.
They called our seat numbers, and my mother and I quickly got up and boarded the plane.  I tried to sleep on the ride, but I was to excited because I was about to see Clementine for the first time in three years!  I thought about her the whole ride there.  I was wondering what she would think of me after these years, I hope she would still like me.  I hope she wanted me, because she is the reason I got up every morning for those three awful years of being apart.  I knew in my heart that one day we would come together again.  That day is today.
I got off the plane slowly.  I was nervous about seeing her again. Even though I was ecstatic, I was so scared of what she would think.  I just rounding a corner when I saw her.
There she was, looking more beautiful than I could ever remember.
As I starred into those loving green eyes for the first time in 3 years, I knew that just being with her again will get me through the rest of my life.

I love when I walk out,
I see the court and all the fans.
I love to hear my name,
while the fans scream and shout.
I love the sound of the shoes on the floor,
and the ball bouncing to its beat.
I love when I hear my coach yell (nicely),
and all the compliments he gives.
I love the sweat I see on my team,
and the determined look on their faces.
I love the feel of the ball,
as I shoot it going for a swoosh.
I love the high fives I get,
as a make my free throw.
I love the encouragement my team gives,
as I work to be better.
I love the feel of a victory,
the joy it brings to everyone!
...Well at least everyone on the Bluejay's side!
Dedicated to Kailey for being such a baller:)
And to everyone else on the team!! I couldn't live without you guys!!
                   I love you all!!<3

I Remember..

I remember all the toys sitting in the yard,
all of them just for me and my brother.
I remember sprinting so fast, the wind whipping your hair,
than jumping into the water, it splashes everywhere.
I remember the worn out blanket,
that protected you from all the monsters.
I remember all the forts made,
so weak you couldn't breathe or it fell.
I remember the innocent obliviousness,
there was nothing in the world besides fun.
I remember the nights spent outside,
the shining stars watching you sleep.
I remember all the dolls,
I was the best mother they ever had.
I remember the prayers with my mommy,
praying for my aunties, uncles, cousins, and friends.
I remember the laughter that filled every day,
bringing sunshine on a cloudy day.
